Past Events
Trick o Canning
AmeriCorps, Youth Corps and Admin at NYC joined forces and collected a couple hundred pounds of canned goods. Instead of the good ol' traditional trick o treating, NYC went Trick o Canning and collected canned goods (and candy) for the homeless! The event was a huge success (and a lot of fun). Check out out a couple of silly pictures.
Eugene Celebration
NYC 1st Annual Fall Open House Corn Roast
Alumni of all ages 'n from all over Lane County, friends, family, elected officials, and other VIPs came to celebrate NYC at our annual Open House Corn Roast. Corn was roasted 'n shucked a by our alumni and smothered with lots of fresh butter. We ate great fresh food that came straight from our Organic Farm. Heck we even had Smore's! Everyone got to try out our tools and listen to first hand testimonials from our Alumni. The event was a great (delicious) success! Thanks everyone for coming!
Oregon State Fair
Mmmm the fresh smell of cotton candy, deep friend twinkies and farm animals (?). Well maybe the Oregon State fair is not as fresh as the mountains we are use to, but the NYC alumni came together none the less and helped us spread the word about Northwest Youth Corps at the fair!
Hendricks Park 'Hoe Down' on the Trail, September 16: A Success!
32 community volunteers, including 16 NYC alumni and five NYC Americorps members, joined forces on September 16 in order to wish Hendricks Park in Eugene a happy 100th birthday! A bucket brigade was formed, allowing volunteers to quickly build a four inch bed of gravel on several hundred yards of a popular and heavily eroded trail after students of NYC's Outdoor School built several new water bars. See photo of Hoedown participants.
NYC Alumni Pulaski Party! View page with all 35 photos.
Thanks to all of the alumni and families who attended the Pulaski Party and barbecue on September 24, our first NYC alumni event! We enjoyed seeing you and brushing trail together at Buford Park (Mt. Pisgah), Lane County's largest park. Attendees worked a total of 71 hours performing trail maintenance on portions of Trail #3, a five mile trail that is popular among local runners, hikers, and equestrian users. But, this event was not all about work, it was fun, too! Following the trail work, NYC hosted a barbecue for alumni with games for children, door prizes, fun 'tests' for NYC alumni, and other exciting activities! Please give us your suggestions for future alumni events by logging on to the NYC Alumni Connection and posting a reply to the topic entitled: 'Fun Ideas for Alumni Events'. We hope to see you at the next one!
