Rural School Service Learning Coordinator
Position Description:
Member will identify and develop volunteer opportunities within the district for parents and community members. Member will develop after school and other enrichment curriculum and implement this curriculum with students (including special needs students). Member assists in the development of service-learning projects for youth. Member will help build and create ways to sustain positive relationships with all segments of our community. Member will plan two community service events in the rural community, two student work events, and two student field education events.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Help provide after school core academic and enrichment activities for youth.
- Plan and lead field education and work activities with youth.
- Plan and lead Outdoor School camps for youth.
- Plan and lead community service days.
- Lead youth in the safe and efficient completion of service projects.
- Act as a role model and leader.
- Use conflict resolution skills and implement school's disciplinary policy.
- Prepare required daily and monthly paperwork.
- Coordinate with staff and community to implement volunteer program.
Desired Qualifications:
- One year of college education; undergraduate/graduate degree preferred.
- Valid driver's license.
- Experience teaching and/or leading youth, and ability to deal with a variety of youth behaviors.
- Experience planning and executing events.
- Strong communication skills and a vested interest in community service.
- Flexible personality to be able to deal with the unexpected.
- Desire for personal challenge.
Terms of employment: One full time AmeriCorps member serves full time 40-45 hours a week, Monday through Friday, see attached example schedule, late August - mid June, for a minimum of 1700 hours and a full 10 month term. Exact dates are tentative and subject to a slight change.
Program Benefits: $11,400 living allowance dispersed evenly on a monthly basis, health insurance, vacation according to school calendar, and a $4,725 education award upon completion of the 1,700 hours of service. The living allowance and education award are taxable. Members are responsible for providing housing, food, work clothes, and transportation to and from work. Service eligibility is contingent upon the results of a criminal background check.
