Outdoor Aventure Tips

  • Here is a link to some great winters tips to keep you safe while you are out having fun.
  • Below are a few quick and easy check lists

Snow Camping Checklist

(suggested minimum from Snow Camping Class at REI)

  

Clothing

  • Wicking under-layer (synthetic – because cotton kills!)
  • Insulating layer (fleece, etc.)
  • Wind/rain proof layer (snow pants, waterproof shell)
  • Warm hat
  • Gloves
  • Extra socks
  • Boots
  • Gaiters

 Camp basics

  • First aid kit
  • Water filter or emergency water purification tablets
  • Repair kit (duct tape, multi-tool, etc.)
  • Headlamps w/spare batteries
  • Candle lantern (optional)

 Food

  • Food
  • Food bag with rope
  • Water bottles (ex: Nalgenes)
  • Stove & fuel
  • Platform for stove
  • Pot & pan w/lids
  • Lighter or matches (2 sets)
  • Bowl & fork/spoon
  • Pot scraper, eco-friendly soap

Shelter Options

  • Tent & footprint
  • Bivy sack & tarp (requires poles)
  • Shovels (to dig snow-cave or other snow shelter)

Sleeping

  • Warm sleeping bag
  • Insulating pad (recommended: both closed-cell foam & inflatable)
  • Tent slippers or warm socks

 Personal

  • Toothbrush & toothpaste
  • Small plastic trowel
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Camera, playing cards, etc.
  • Hand-warmers

(Day Trip Minimum)

1.            Map (in a watertight case)

2.            Compass (plus an optional GPS receiver)

3.            Extra clothing

7.            Matches (storm proof, or in a watertight container)

8.            Fire starter

9.            Knife (or multi-use camp tool)

10.        Sunglasses

12.        Water filter (or other method of water treatment)

13.        Whistle
